Background/Summary:Overview
The Tribal Health Care Research Programme was initiated by CCRAS in 1982
with the main objective to Study the living conditions, geographical and
environmental profile of tribal people, availability and use of medicinal
plants in the area, study of dietetic habits, Socio-demographic profile,
nature and frequency of prevalent diseases and collection of information
related to health status, propagation of knowledge about hygiene, and
preventing diseases, provide medical aid at their door steps, collection and
documentation of folk medicines/claims.
This Programme was initiated at National Institute of Sowa Rigpa, Leh in
2014 and the main objectives of the Tribal Health Care Research Programme is
to provide free medical camp for tribal population of Leh and Kargil
districts at their door steps under TSP. This programme includes providing
awareness to the local tribal people about cleanliness of domestic
surroundings. In addition, study of living conditions, diseases profile,
dietary habits, social economic condition, geographical and environmental
information etc. of tribal population will be documented along with
prevalence of diseases from the tribal community and also assessment of the
health status.
Summary of THCRP during 2014-2020
In this programme during 2014-2020, 389 visits were made to 162 villages of two districts of Ladakh i.e. Leh & Kargil. A total population of 63,992 was surveyed and Sowa Rigpa medicines have been provided to 18,649 patients. During the survey of these villages, it was found that maximum number of diseases was non communicable disease and lifestyle diseases. The prevalent diseases found in these villages are Drumbu (Arthritis), Phowei-nad, (Stomach Disorder), mKhel-nad, (Kidney Diseases), rTsakar-nad (Nerves Disorders), Phowa-sMugpo-nad (Peptic ulcer), Trakloong-sTodtsang (Hypertension) and mGo-nad (Headache) etc as per the survey. During 2014-2020, 42 folk claims were collected from local people & Amchi on different diseases conditions such as asthma, joint pain, hypertension, and headache and skin diseases. During the survey of these villages, it was found that most of the patients responded very well to the Sowa Rigpa treatment and the result was excellent.
